Coming up with your own strategy?
Traditional SEO
Traditional SEO involves selecting a list of keywords you want to rank for and then creating content around those terms. For example, if you're managing SEO for a food & nutrition brand, you might target keywords like:
Best diet to lose weight
How many calories in rice
These keywords share two main characteristics:
They are related to nutrition.
They have different structures or syntax.
Because these keywords don’t share a common syntax, traditional SEO can be thought of as "0-dimensional," meaning there's no single structure to generate both keywords from.
1-Dimensional SEO
To understand 0-dimensional SEO better, let’s contrast it with 1-dimensional SEO. Here’s an example of a 1-dimensional syntax:
How many calories in {food}
This isn’t a specific keyword but a template that can generate multiple keywords. It’s called 1-dimensional because it has one variable ({food}) which can be swapped out to create different keywords. For example, with a list of foods such as rice, lettuce, and carrots, you get keywords like:
How many calories in rice
How many calories in lettuce
How many calories in carrots
You can easily do this in Excel or Google Sheets by placing “how many calories in” in one column and a list of foods in another. A simple formula can then generate a keyword for each food item.
Why Use 1-Dimensional SEO?
Quick Keyword Lists: It’s easier to create a list of foods than to manually search for each keyword.
Topical Authority: Writing content on these keywords helps build your site’s authority on nutrition.
Structured Content: You can neatly organize this content into a specific section of your site, like:
https://example.com/how-many-calories/{food}
.
2-Dimensional SEO
Expanding from 1 dimension, a 2-dimensional example would be:
How many {nutrients} in {food}
Here, {nutrients} could be a list like calories, fat, carbs, etc. The number of keywords generated is the number of {nutrients} times the number of {foods}. So, with 10 nutrients and 100 foods, you get 1,000 keywords.
Benefits of 2-Dimensional SEO
Less Competition: 2-dimensional SEO often targets keywords that traditional SEO misses, making them easier to rank for.
Scalable with AI: Tools like SeoScribe can help you create content at a scale that’s impractical for human writers, allowing you to cover more keywords.
Effective Results: From my experience, 2-dimensional projects outperform 1-dimensional ones. Even though they target lower volume searches, the lack of competition means they often rank higher on search results.
Example: Using SeoScribe for Keyword Research
Our research tool, SeoScribe, allows you to find and collate keywords that are relevant to your site. You can compile these keywords into clusters and send them to the Article Generator for writing.
How Does It Work?
Head to the keyword research tab, where you'll see a search bar.
Provide one of three types of inputs:
Seed Keyword: Simply provide a keyword relevant to your site/brand, and SeoScribe will return a list of related keywords.
Parameterized Keyword: Provide a keyword like 'best * shoes'. The asterisk stands for a wildcard word, meaning that SeoScribe will return only keywords like 'best hiking shoes', 'best running shoes', and so on.
Domain: Provide a root domain (e.g. webmd.com), and SeoScribe will return a list of keywords it thinks are relevant to that domain.
SeoScribe will display a list of relevant keywords. For each keyword displayed, you'll see a number of statistics:
Search Volume: An estimate of the total number of monthly searches of this keyword.
Trend: A sparkline graph of the last 12 months of search volume data.
Difficulty: A rough difficulty score, indexed on a scale from 0 to 100, representing how tough it is likely to be to rank on this keyword. This data is derived from paid search/PPC metrics and may not always correspond to other tools but should give a directionally accurate result.
Add the selected keyword to the article generator: You can then use these keywords to generate high-quality, SEO-optimized content at scale.

By leveraging SeoScribe and the principles of dimensional SEO, you can enhance your content strategy, improve your search engine rankings, and ultimately drive more traffic to your site.
