How to Submit a Sitemap to Google

You can submit your sitemap to Google using Google Search Console (GSC).

Note: If you don't have a Google Search Console account, create one.

Steps to Submit a Sitemap:

  1. Log in to Google Search Console

    • Log in to your GSC account.

    • Select the website you want to submit a sitemap for.

  1. Go to the ‘Sitemaps’ Report

    • In the left sidebar, go to the “Indexing” section and click on “Sitemaps.”

    • This is where you can manage your sitemaps.

  1. Find the URL of Your Sitemap

    • Most XML sitemaps are located at https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.

    • You can also use Google search: site:yourdomain.com filetype:xml.

    • Check your robots.txt file at https://yourdomain.com/robots.txt for a sitemap link.

    • If you don't have an XML sitemap, create one (refer to our guide on creating an XML sitemap).

  2. Add a New Sitemap

    • In the “Sitemaps” report, go to the “Add a new sitemap” section.

    • Paste the URL of your sitemap and click “Submit.”

    • A confirmation message will appear once submitted.

Your sitemap will now appear in the “Submitted sitemaps” list, showing submission date, last read date, and the number of pages discovered. The status will indicate if the submission was successful or if there are issues to fix.
